I have a concrete house with a plastered facade that has developed a crack that goes from narrow to wider (see photos). How do I go about fixing this? And how do you get the small stones into the plaster, do you mix them in with the plaster first or throw them on afterwards on the wall?

Does anyone know of any YouTube clip or a step by step guide that I might follow?

I would have outsourced this if there had been any plasterers available, but it seems to be a very busy profession unfortunately ;)

Cracked stucco wall with widening gap beside a white drainage pipe; decorative lights hang above. Cracked stucco facade on a concrete house corner, with a gutter and outdoor items like a broom and chair nearby. Cracked stucco wall with a vertical fissure, beside a white drainpipe and a red-handled broom leaning against the wall. Crack in a stucco facade of a concrete house, widening from thin to thick. Downspout and decorations hang nearby.

Difficult to repair, even if you apply some mortar, it just cracks again.

So it's completely impossible? Can't you do it if you fix a larger area or something like that? What makes it so difficult to repair without it cracking again?

The crack is pervasive, and it's not sufficient to just apply a little on the surface, a bit like putting a band-aid on a broken bone.

Can't you fill the hole with something before you plaster then?

No one else who might have a different opinion on whether it can be solved in any way? You've seen houses with much worse condition on plaster with large cracks and such where they've repaired.

Or will you need to tear down the whole wall and rebuild it to get rid of the crack in the plaster?

Either you have to chip away some material around it (at least 10 cm wide) and then apply new plaster mesh and plaster. It will be quite noticeable and you won't get the same surface or shade on it. The second option is to try to fill the crack with some thin-flowing mortar (maybe thin-joint bucket?) and see if it holds. However, it is the wall behind that has moved so it will probably crack again...

The only way to properly fix the crack is to chip off the plaster on the whole house and replaster it. Then the crack might come back in a few years. Edit: see that this is an old thread
