Hello,

I am planning to build custom wardrobes in our basement office. Currently, there is a carpet that has been there for at least 7 years. It is laid directly on the concrete floor, and so far, there is no strange odor, so we intend to keep it. Now that the wardrobes are to be installed, it seems unwise to build over the carpet, so I was thinking of cutting away a section and building directly on the concrete. But then I realized that natural materials directly on concrete is a big no-no. Since the carpet has been there without any issues for quite a while, could it be that wooden frames might be okay too? 😇
And if not, does anyone have tips for a good solution?
I'm considering "screw legs" similar to those found on dishwashers/refrigerators... I have barely 4 cm height to work with.

Grateful for any input! 😊

Are they ready-made wardrobe frames?
Manufacturer and model?
Pictures?

These are ready-made frames, Pax from Ikea. I don't have any pictures from the basement, but the original idea was that the foundation would be built with studs similar to the attached pictures, but without the "legs".

  • Wooden frame on floor with drill, screws, and toolboxes nearby, used as a base structure example without legs for building purposes.
  • Assembled Ikea Pax frames on wooden floor with tools and screws scattered, illustrating initial construction plans without base "legs.
Thank you! I'll go for a solution in that style!

But by the way, regarding the carpet. Isn't it better to remove it completely underneath? I'm thinking about the future if for some reason you need to replace it, then you would also need to remove the wardrobe... or maybe not the whole thing but at least the base.
Would you have made cuts instead because of the aesthetics or practicality?
