Hello,

I've been thinking about starting the staircase renovation at home. I've just laid parquet on the upper floor, but now I'm a bit unsure how to handle the stair railing up there. Here's what the space looks like: Staircase renovation project showing a wooden floor, unfinished stairs, and tools on a landing area.

I was thinking of having a bottom rail, a top rail, and spindles in between. Now to the question... How do I best fix the bottom rail and the end posts? I understand that I should run it through the chipboard down to a joist, but should I cut away more of the parquet and place the bottom rail directly on the chipboard instead? Because if I place it on the parquet and then attach it to a joist, the floor won't be able to move at all, so I guess that's not as good of an option. I would greatly appreciate ideas and opinions. Thanks in advance.

Remove the parquet and lay the underlayer directly on the chipboard.
