How construction companies choose building supplies stores
Hello. I'm working on a project at college and trying to understand how construction companies (1-20 people) choose building material suppliers. If anyone working at a construction company would like to share their experiences, I would be extremely grateful!
- How do you choose a building material supplier?
- What is important when choosing a building material supplier?
- How much are you influenced by your own end customer when choosing a supplier?
- Does environmental work play a role in the choice?
- What is the most important thing your building supplier does, provides, helps with? And what is often lacking?
- How do you receive information from those you choose? Mail, SMS, or how does it work?

I have never signed a contract with a building supply store, but I guess they do as usual.
I sign many purchase and delivery contracts in my profession.
When I am going to sign contracts with new suppliers, I conduct a simplified procurement where delivery reliability and price are usually important. Then you contact a number of major players and a few local ones and then put them in competition. When one player emerges as the winner, you sit down at the negotiating table and push the price further.

Good service first and foremost, reasonable price second
Many wholesalers have a system with a "kickback", meaning their customers receive the entire discount at the end of the year, often as a credit invoice.
In this way, the construction company can present an invoice with regular prices to their customer and then add a percentage markup on these prices. The end customer never sees the construction company's discount.
This phenomenon has been discussed in probably thousands of threads on the forum.
The problem with your project is that no construction company will admit this. You will not be able to report the most important selection factor.
