Horizontal joints in the plastic without support underneath, okay??

we are going to cover our walls and sloped ceilings with plastic and then install sparse paneling. the simplest way was to place the plastic from wall to wall, horizontally. but then the seam won't be over a stud... is that allowed? considering the sparse paneling, I think it should hold...

Tape? There is special tape for moisture barriers and then it should be quite a significant overlap (can't remember exactly right now)
