Hole sawing in wood = fire hazard ?
Hello
I bought a hole saw today and I'm going to cut a drainage hole for the washing machine in the wooden joists!
I almost crapped myself when I saw smoke and smelled burning in the wood haha. I dampened it a bit with water but still felt worried, a wooden house from 1890 must burn well.
I went through the floor chipboard and a beam in stages. I still have quite a bit left to saw which I will do from the crawl space underneath.
Do you have any tips to avoid a fire??

Okay, thanks for the response, I will have a syringe ready. It feels reassuring to have the support of an expert. I will write in this thread if the house catches fire

Just take it easy and carefully, and let the saw cool down occasionally, watering gently. The saw will feel a bit better as well. It takes quite a lot for the actual "wooden planks" to catch fire, but if you have sawdust in the joists, it's a bit (much) more sensitive.
