I'm going to install the door frame around a sliding door and want to hide the screw heads. The easiest way is to just countersink the screws and then putty over them. The only risk is that IF you ever want to loosen the frame, you'll need to use a reciprocating saw, which is a bit too brutal for my taste.

Is there any clever way to solve this? Plastic plugs like the ones over frame screws are a bit too visible.

Drive a wooden dowel into the hole, saw it off, and paint. Then you should see a small difference in the frame for future removal.

Agree that the plastic plugs are ugly. Fill in, but not perfectly. Then you can see where the screws are. On the other hand, the moldings should be removed if you're going to lift out the window/door and then the screws will be visible (if you remove the insulation).

I have used the Drömhus method and it works very well. Any future adjustments will be quite pointless if the door frame is still attached to the trim. Adjustments to the door leaf's position should be done like in the past: adjust the hinges, preferably removed and secured in a vise.

A small but powerful magnet is a good and inexpensive tool for finding covered screws if you are searching within a limited area such as a door frame or moldings.
