I have a hallway with too many doors and now want to create a bit more "calm" in the space by installing acoustic panel on a wall to conceal 2 doors leading to a small storage room and laundry room. Has anyone undertaken a similar project and can share their experiences?

Both doors open "outward" and therefore have hinges on the outside, so I need to fit them so the hinges fall between the slats. I'm thinking of removing the handles/locks and having some form of "push-to-open" functionality.

Picture for attention, i.e., not my setup. :)

Not many replies 😂 - but I'll take the chance to share my result.

Very nice! What kind of doors are they? How did you attach the panel? Any lock case on the doors? Please upload more detailed pictures!

Thank you! They are regular interior doors that had Assa Abloy handles/locks on them. I removed these and installed so-called roller locks (think sauna), which fit the size of the lock case perfectly. The new handles are regular Habo for kitchen drawers.

I outsourced the work to a carpenter since I didn't think I had the right tools; it took him a day. He attached the panels with "matching" screws. He also managed to move one of the doors about 5mm sideways to maintain the spacing and avoid having to split a slat.

I can upload some more photos a bit later.

Some more detailed images below.

What hasn't been resolved is some form of coverage for the holes where locks and handles were on the inside of the doors. I saw that there are cover plates that screw together with a cover plate on the other side - but it's too late now 🤠. Suggestions and ideas are gratefully received.

  • Close-up of a wooden door panel with vertical slats and a visible hinge.
  • Close-up of a wooden door edge showing the lock plate without a handle, needing covers for the holes from removed locks and handles.
  • Close-up of a door edge showing holes left by removed locks and handles, with a beige latch plate attached.

Buy the cover plates but glue them instead of screwing?

I would fill the holes with some multi-putty.
Otherwise, maybe glued or screwed Doslock to device boxes (easy to modify with scissors/knife if the size is too large)
