Planning to extend the existing garage and carport according to the pictures. The shed roof will continue at the same angle as the existing extension.

I want to keep the wood dimensions down due to already low ceiling height at the far right of the new extension.

I have concluded that 45x170 C24 works for roof beams at cc 60 with a span of 3.5m as it will be in each section.

The roof beams will be attached to the support beam with joist hangers to avoid additional low ceiling height.

I don't want a full inner wall but could consider posts. The question is, based on the sketch in the picture, what dimension of the support beam works? The distance between posts is currently 2.5m max. Would two glued 45x170mm C24 be sufficient or do I need posts even closer than 2.5m then?

Very grateful for assistance.

Exterior view of a garage and carport under renovation, with a red wooden structure, ladder, wooden pallets, and measurement tools on a gravel driveway. Red wooden garage with extension area and concrete foundation. White car parked nearby on gravel. Overcast sky and fields in the background. 3D diagram of a garage and carport extension with measurements, showing structural layout and column spacing for construction planning. Red barn with attached garage; a concrete extension marked with red lines shows planned carport build, revealing rural landscape in the background.

Here's a good help.

There is nothing about the dimensioning of support beams.

Download the "Svenskt trä" guide, which Ricebridge linked to. Then you have "dimensionering" in the app. There you'll find the help you’re looking for.

It doesn't say anything about dimensionering of support beams under roof rafters?

Is there anyone who could take a look at my "case" and give an opinion on load-bearing beams and whether attaching to the load-bearing beam with joist hangers is okay, or if I should place the roof joists on top of the load-bearing beam despite the reduced ceiling height under the actual load-bearing beam.

Have you considered using self-supporting roofing sheets? Then you don't really even need any rafters for the roof.. Just sturdy beams.

That won't work because the roof must have the same sheet profile as the existing extension since the new extension is to follow the existing one.
