Hello,
We are going to replace the facade on a storage shed where the panels (120mm) overlap each other and would like help with calculating how much material is needed.

We are also considering replacing the roof, what is the cheapest option for that and how do you calculate the material for it?

  • Front and side schematic view of a shed with overlapping panel design, approximately 2500mm wide, with a sloping roof.
  • Rear view blueprint of a storage shed showing dimensions, with height 2500mm and width 4500mm, relevant to facade replacement inquiry.
  • Front elevation diagram of a storage shed, showing dimensions: width approx. 4700mm, height approx. 2200mm, and door size 9x20.

Do you have panel boards with you? Place two beside each other (as they will be nailed up later) and measure the distance between the corresponding point on both boards. Not as difficult as you think. Then you get how much it builds on the width. For example, 102 mm. Then you need 4500/103= 44 boards on the back.

Today the boards overlap, I assume they must do that for some reason?

What profile do the panel boards have, could it be Z-panel?
Here's the calculation in that case (but one must also consider potential waste):
Pre-painted Z-panels in wood with dimensions 22x120 and 22x145 shown, indicating usage per square meter with specific linear meters required.
Regarding the roof, I think that regular raw boards plus trapezoidal sheet metal are the simplest and cheapest:

Whether paper is needed in between, I don't know, but I believe it is not needed for a simple, well-ventilated storage shed.
