I am going to put up a (heavy) ceiling lamp in my apartment. There is a ceiling rose and a hole but no hook - the question is, what material is the ceiling made of? Crumbs are coming out of the hole and it seems to be some kind of cement and straw(?) inside. The building was constructed around the year 1910.

  • Close-up of a ceiling hole surrounded by plaster, revealing dark material inside, possibly cement and straw, in a building from around 1910.
  • Close-up of a ceiling hole, showing crumbly material, possibly cement or straw, in a building from around 1910.
  • Ceiling rosette with a central hole and exposed wiring in an early 20th-century apartment, showing possible cement and straw material.

Then the ceiling is probably plastered. You probably have boards behind it. First, try threading in a sturdy hook and see if it doesn't pull.
