Hello, I'm planning to build a fence during my vacation and could use some advice on how to proceed. The enclosure will be about 2000m2, and the fence itself will be made of chicken wire.

How do I best get the posts into the ground?
How far apart can the posts be placed?

My first thought is using these spikes that you drive into the ground, but there will be about 80-100 posts to set up, and I can only imagine how tough that will be :)
It's good soil, no stones or anything like that.

Chicken wire can be easily chewed through by dogs, and they can also get their claws caught if they decide to climb out (I've seen all the variants ).
How big are the dogs?

Chicken wire is probably quite flimsy for dogs; it might hold for a while but will likely give way sooner or later. In Finland, there is something called dog fencing, made of heavier galvanized steel with larger meshes (I believe 50x100mm). It naturally becomes quite a bit more expensive than chicken wire; I remember the rolls costing around 150€/each for 20 meters (2 meters high). Buy pre-sharpened 2.5-meter high impregnated posts for the fence; you can find these at all agricultural retailers.

The chicken wire can also let a small dog crawl through since it is easy to lift between the posts no matter how tightly you stretch the wire. I made a dog run (or rather an exercise area behind the house) with chicken wire in some parts but have considered replacing it with a real fence instead.

Are the pre-sharpened posts easier to drive in than iron spikes?
Do they stay in place for a longer time too?
