there is. and they did use some reinforcement in the movie.
however, not fun as a surface layer or when cleaning the surface. the "threads" can stick up

I don't think it replaces rebar, maybe it replaces mesh reinforcement.

Have done quite a bit of shotcrete, a large part of it was with steel fiber. I don't know the exact strength data, but trying to chisel fiber concrete is a real nightmare, tough as hell!
