I'm trying to mount my 40-inch TV on the wall, but I'm a bit unsure about how I'm supposed to handle the screwing. The TV weighs 8 kg and the wall mount about 2-3 kg. I'm very inexperienced with this, so I want to be extra sure before I start.
Some info
* The wall is made of plaster
* There are wooden studs behind
* The depth of the plaster is about 31 mm (very uncertain measurement), I believe there are two layers of plasterboard behind it
I've uploaded a picture from the accompanying manual and the screws the manual suggests using. The screws in the picture are about 6 cm in length.
So how should I proceed with the drilling? Should I just drive in the included screws directly into the plaster or should I pre-drill first, and then drive the screws into the studs without anything in between?
I made a hole in the wall before, and the strange thing is that it drew air from the hole into the room (!), I have no idea what's behind the wall but I would like the whole solution to be "windproof" so to speak.
Did you know that screws come into a stud? In that case, you should have wood screws that are long enough to reach into the stud, as the first 26mm won't support anything since they only go through the plasterboard.
If you don't hit studs, you should buy molly plugs for double plasterboard.
Since the mount is of the pull-out type, meaning the TV hangs a bit away from the wall, you will have quite a substantial load on the upper screws, so make sure they are properly secured.
