I have searched the forum but can't find a clear answer...

In the garage, I've now progressed to the point where OSB boards are mounted inside, and the next step is to put up drywall.
Is it important for the drywall to be screwed into the studs, or is it enough to screw the edges into the OSB? Of course, the drywall will be screwed in everywhere there are studs, but it would be easier if it's okay to screw some board edges where there's only OSB behind. I don't want to make a mistake...

Of course, there won't be joints in the same places where the OSB has its joints.

I usually stagger the joints on the gypsum with the joints on the OSB - that is, start with a whole OSB but a half gypsum board. This is partly because it's easier to cut gypsum (and because you don't want to start with a pressed edge on the gypsum in a corner) and then place the gypsum on the OSB where it fits. I always use 45 screws in OSB and 35 screws in gypsum.
I believe that you avoid cracking by not placing the joints in the same place, just as you said.
In my opinion, it's sufficient for the gypsum to be attached to the OSB, regardless of whether there's a stud behind it or not.

However, it might be good to note WHERE you have the studs the day you need to put up larger, heavier shelves or similar items.

That's how I do it anyway!

I rarely bother to screw the gypsum into the studs, it's not necessary.

Without having total oversight, I just want to write +1.
I think along the same lines as slacker. But I use 32mm chipboard screws for the OSB.

In the garage, I used 32mm chipboard screws for the OSB, then 45mm drywall screws for the gypsum board, and I made sure that the drywall seams were centered on the stud.
Now in the house, I think I'll skip the finesse: first OSB with 32mm chipboard screws, then gypsum with half-panel staggered seams screwed with 32mm drywall screws, and I will completely ignore where the studs are.
For now, for example, the outer walls are cross-studded, which means the horizontal studs can't align under a panel seam anyway. But in that case, it's really important to have staggered panel seams.

But I think 40 and 30 mm screws are enough...

And if you haven't bought it yet, get an impact driver. Really nice for driving drywall screws, fast at first and slow at the end so it's easy to drive just right. Fantastic for everything else too.

If you're going to install a lot of drywall: buy or rent a screw gun. It goes really fast and works great.

I've been using 32mm chipboard screws for the OSB and plan to use 42mm for the drywall.
I have a good idea of where the studs are, so I'll be screwing into the studs, but I'm not concerned about where the seams end up. This significantly eases the process where there are tricky angles.

An automatic screwdriver would have been nice, but my drywall screwdriver does the job really well too.
Just set the depth and then go as much as you can :)
 
I also have the impression that it cracks more easily if you align the joints at the same place, but otherwise, it usually works out by screwing into the studs anyway, it's the same c/c, if you install OSB with a small gap, like the narrowest part you find on the measuring tape, it goes well. If I've plasticized behind the OSB, I don't want to screw 2000 screws through it unnecessarily, so I'm a bit more careful than usual, then I can screw the drywall into the OSB, it holds up well.

Mikael, you can place OSB horizontally, so the edge will end up on a stud, the short end joint is held together by the plasterboard.

Well, I was pondering back and forth about that. But in the end, I chose vertical OSB and then vertical plasterboard with staggered joints. The interior walls don't have any horizontal studs anyway. I figured it was just as well to use the same system everywhere.

I guess I'll see when I'm done if I regret the choice. :)

Nope.
Biltema does not have loose drywall screws or chipboard screws that are cheaper than the collated ones I buy.
 
Where do you shop?
Because if I can shop the same, I'll order one of those Makita :)

It's my local hardware store where I buy 1000 collated screws for 110-120 SEK.
K-Rauta used to have, at least before, the same low price.
