I was going to get behind the outer panel of an extension to reroute a cable. Then I noticed that they installed gypsum instead of plastic film/paper before the outer panel. Is this okay, or does it have to be plastic film/paper, then nail battens, and finally the outer panel?

Sure it's not fascia boards? They are made of gypsum. However, more durable than the ones you put up indoors.

Thank you for the response. They could certainly be wind barrier boards. They look thinner than regular plasterboard. I didn't know there was something called wind barrier boards, but now I've read up on it. There actually seem to be advantages to it?
