Hey!
I'm in the process of installing trim around doors after a renovation (done by carpenters). However, I planned to finish the hallway myself, but now that I'm about to install trim around the doors, I see that the new walls are thicker than the old ones, creating a gap as you can see in the picture.
Since I have an older house, there are no straight walls, so the gap ranges from 3-8mm. What is the best way to fix this? I don't have any fancy machines, so I'm not able to craft a nice piece of wood to fit. Does spackle work, or how should I proceed? Is it best to build up with an 8mm trim and then plane it down?

Thank you for the answers! I will see the possibility of shortening the heel lining to 8mm instead of 12mm. Maybe Beijer can do it for me since I don't have a planer.
Soft sealant, is that silicone? Is it just a matter of pressing it in and then smoothing it out?

Replace the current molding with a wider one. Or a trim board as someone suggested.
Suggestions about caulking must be a bad joke, or maybe from one of today's craftsmen that you read a lot about on this forum.
Dyckert ??- You probably can't nail a trim to the reveal if the gap is 8 mm.
