A couple of years ago, I removed the plaster from the chimney and added a crown molding at the ceiling. However, we have mice that crawl around various places in the house, and here they cause mouse droppings and sawdust to fall into the gap created between the crown molding and the chimney. What can I use to fill this gap?

I've read that foam sealant is flammable and it expands quite a lot, which might push the crown molding out even more than it already is today. I've never worked with foam sealant. Sawdust and mice are also flammable, but I don't want to make it worse by sealing with something flammable.

No, I don't know what to fill that gap with to avoid getting mouse droppings on the kitchen counter below. Feel free to share your suggestions!

Why not take down the list and mount it correctly?

Remove the baseboard? Seal it with fireproof sealant, like Sikaflex for shelters, and put the molding back or use a crown molding ;)

I have forgiven myself for this solution a long time ago 😂

Haha that's right, this is a skirting board. There were a few centimeters to cover when the plaster was gone...

Thanks for the tip! I don't remember how much needs to be sealed, but should that product be able to seal a few centimeter wide gap?

Hehe, sorry couldn't help myself. Yes, it will work fine.
