I will create a new room by partitioning part of the upper floor in a 1.5-story house.
There is already a Kärcher wooden floor on chipboard. The room is currently about 6 meters wide.
The ceiling is plastered up to the ridge, which we will keep.
Some considerations I need some help with.
1. Is it wise to notch the wooden floor for the floor joist considering the floor should be able to move against the new wall?
2. As seen in the picture, there is a glulam beam at the ridge and it is 120mm. The wall will start from the inside of the post, which is square, 140mm.
I see two options but am not quite sure which will be best/"nicest":
2.a. Use 95 studs and plaster up to the beam?
2.b. Use 120 studs and plaster over the beam, all the way up to the ceiling?

  • Spacious attic room with sloped gypsum ceiling and wooden floor, featuring a beam, window with curtains, and seating area. A desk and chair are near the window.

1. It is usually possible to build a light interior wall on a floating floor by not fastening the floor rail to the floor but letting it rest on top. The wall must then be well anchored upwards and to the sides.
