Fixed renovation plaster

I am going to place renovation plasterboard on two walls. They are currently lightweight concrete with wallpaper.

Should I use plaster mortar? How thick should the layer be applied?

I would probably choose to apply a thin layer, very thin, like nothing
Glue them instead, just make sure the wallpapers behind are properly attached, or even better, put up battens behind but gluing in strips works fine, fill up with putty if it's uneven behind.
