Hello, I noticed now as I started preparing for painting that one of the pillars for the porch roof has rotted at the bottom. They are 3 treated beams joined together and then painted, there used to be bushes around there before.

It's the last 30 cm, the rest is healthy. Is there any way to repair it, or do I need to replace the entire post?

  • A wooden porch column with rotting and peeling paint at the base, revealing damaged wood underneath. The rest of the column appears intact.
  • A rotting bottom of a painted porch column made of three joined impregnated beams, with surrounding red wooden siding and open door.

Water that ran down the post and got onto the wall, it became wet and didn't dry properly, then water is absorbed into the end grain. Probably need to replace it and ensure there is air between the wall and the post.
