Tec 7 is kind of the best universal substance for sealing, caulking, and perhaps even gluing. You can even seal underwater. However, it is also the most sticky/gluey I've tested. Not as easy to spread nicely as a regular latex sealant, in my experience.
 
10 mm feels like quite a lot for latex... On the other hand, do as you thought in post #9. Seal it first, if it goes wrong you can just put a strip over it later.
 
Can also give a shout-out to tec7. I think it's absolutely superb. It's paintable and properly flexible. I've used it for everything from sealing panels on the outside of the house to bathroom joints to gluing plastic and wood together in my woodworking shop.
