I have an outbuilding on the property where the idea is to build a small apartment, currently, it has a crawl space foundation. The house stands on stone blocks, so it's completely open around.

The plan is to add insulation, replace windows, panels, etc. There is also a room with a concrete floor for the hydropressor and incoming water. There's a musty smell in that room, next to it is a room that used to be an old bar. There, it's a regular beam construction.

So to remove the smell and also tidy up the foundation, I thought about taking up the floor to check if anything is rotten/damaged, possibly digging out to lay macadam and then plastic over it before a new beam structure. The drainage will also be replaced in conjunction with the construction of the new main house.

But how does one practically manage to create a proper foundation? My initial plan was to cast a "trench" piece by piece and then place Leca blocks. I'm thinking of dividing the long side into 2 or 3 sections and casting piece by piece.

Or am I completely off track? Are there other options?
