Have installed in beam in concrete wall due to opening. The beam rests on concrete brick.

Question: how much surface does the beam need to rest on, is 300 mm enough?

Also, question about what should be used for filling between the beam and concrete, need to fill about 20 mm. Should be something that doesn't shrink and can handle the load.

Grateful for tips.

  • Wooden beam supported on a concrete wall with yellow spacers visible, measurements written on the wall marking 300 mm and 625 mm.
  • Wooden beam installed in an opening of a concrete wall supported by steel props, with exposed brick and a window in the background.
  • Steel beam resting on concrete wall with wooden support, requiring advice on proper surface area and filler for 20 mm gap.
