Hello, I have a small problem: I want to cast a larger structure (about 50x50x30 cm) but don't have all the time in the world, so I'm looking for tips on fast-setting concrete/cement, preferably setting within an hour or so. I've searched the internet but only found sealing concrete that only works in castings less than 3 cm, and this is about a freestanding structure entirely built from this material (and reinforcement, of course). Thanks in advance!

An hour? Not a bad requirement. Epscement takes about 12 hours and it's easy to work with, a 50-liter bag weighs 17 kg, it contains frigolitpellets so you get an insulating effect at the same time. Check here http://www.epscement.com/

There is a very high risk of shrinkage cracks due to the temperature effect with the type of casting you are considering.

How the result looks doesn't really matter, but the time for the casting is the most important factor, but I have somewhat realized that this is impossible, considering plaster instead, how long does it take for plaster to set?

That was a good thing, but unfortunately way too long, but thanks anyway, it might be valuable for other things!

So you're planning to cast many such blocks and only have one mold, or did I misunderstand?

If you want many identical concrete items, it's common to use earth-moist concrete, meaning concrete with less water that has a consistency somewhere between crumbly and sticky, depending on the product's height. You fill the mold while vigorously vibrating and then can turn the item out onto a plate and start the next one.

It might be difficult to mix in a tumbler though...

Hello rdaa!

Look for a retailer of ARDEX products, there you can find quick-setting cement that meets your needs without any problem,
the problem then becomes the cost!!

I might as well mention which product I am referring to!!

ARDEX EB 2 is also available pre-mixed..

good luck,

mix it only to earth-moist consistency and pack it well.

Hi marten70, and Thank you!
That was exactly what I was looking for, big thanks to you!

Deitermann has developed a product used for embedding floor drains, where you should not use regular concrete due to the long curing time and the risk of shrinkage cracks.

Go to Maxit.se and you'll definitely find concrete that suits you; I could recommend Exm 711 or Exm 712, they set in about 45 minutes!
I work at maxit!
