The deck railing needs to be raised to avoid visibility onto our deck. What is the best way to extend a 95x95 standing post by about 1 meter so that the joint doesn't become weak when the wind hits it?

Many ways.
1. with perforated sheet metal
2. with plyfa (cheapest)
3. with cutting and gluing (probably the strongest)
4. with square profiles

Thanks - I didn't think of notching but it would look nice. The other options will probably work well, but I'd prefer it to be a seamless joint. I was thinking about whether you could "operate" in a järn by pre-drilling into the post ends. That combined with notching and gluing would be nice and stable.
