Hello

We have a house from '84 that we moved into in 2012 and have always had a humidity of around 70-75% in the crawl space and even higher during shorter periods in the summer, but it is a little lower in the winter.
We have done moisture checks in the sill which holds 9-10%, so there are no problems there. We have also laid out construction plastic in the foundation.
My question is whether it would still be necessary to install a dehumidifier in the crawl space, or is it unnecessary since it hasn't gotten worse to this date, or what should be done in this foundation?
I have attached some pictures.

  • Close-up of a concrete beam with a significant rust stain and cracks, indicating potential moisture issues in the crawl space.
  • Close-up of a concrete beam's edge with visible rust spots, likely from moisture exposure in a crawl space.
  • Crawl space under a house showing concrete foundation and plastic sheeting on the ground, indicating concern about humidity levels.
  • Close-up of rust and discoloration on a concrete surface, possibly indicating moisture issues in a crawl space.
Personally, I wouldn't have cared in the slightest about it. Well. I would probably have crawled in and applied rust protection to the exposed rebar. Preferably with underbody coating or something similar, not because I think it would be necessary, but because I wouldn't be able to resist 😀.

Hehe, I understand. Also thinking that if nothing more has happened in over 40 years, it might feel a bit overkill.
