Experiences meranti wood

I am looking at windows from abroad, which can often be ordered in the wood type meranti. It seems to be an equivalent to teak. Does anyone have experience with this wood type?

Meranti doesn't have all the best characteristics of teak. Not as durable as teak. Also doesn't have teak's uniform moisture movements. I believe it's used to make plywood.

I've personally used it for interior moldings in a boat. It turned out nice. Almost looks like mahogany but has a less pronounced grain.

Thank you so much for sharing your impressions. That was exactly the information I was looking for. The most common "noble wood types" you find from window manufacturers are oak and meranti. We would perhaps have liked a redder tone than oak, but it's always possible to pigment the oil a bit. Clearly leaning towards oak for our window sections.
