What would be best here, do you think?
There will be a small "box" in the joist space all the way out against the insulated and plastic-covered wall. In the box, the drainage and tap water (r.i.r) will come up to the sink.
Should one try to fit in small pieces of regular insulation and hope there won't be too many gaps and holes, or should the box be filled with foam sealant?
The "box" is b55x approximately d20 x h22.

I recently filled a similar space with incoming electricity and water in a utility house. The problem with expanding foam is that it dries from the outside in. If you have a large volume, it creates significant forces. It's better to use smaller amounts and apply it multiple times instead. Otherwise, there's a risk of it damaging something.

Thank you for the feedback. Now it ended up being regular insulation anyway. It was possible to fit it in with a bit of persistence and patience.
It can get really awkward with foam sealant if something needs to be replaced there later.
