Expander for drywall doesn't work, why...?

Hello, Right now, I am building a wall. I have a 45x70 stud that needs to be attached to a drywall. I have tested 2 different drywall plugs and expanders. Various lengths of screws, but nothing works. You can easily pull out the stud. The plug hasn't expanded, and furthermore, the screw just "spins" when you screw it in fully. What am I doing wrong? Any other tips for attaching the stud to the drywall?

Mount Toggler on existing wall, attach with the stud, use threaded rod if you can't find a screw.
