I have this nail that I use for moldings at home, it is electroplated - does that mean I can use it to attach trim outside around the door - or will they rust?

Are there nails for a nail gun suitable for outdoor use?

Electrogalvanized rusts in outdoor environments! Only galvanized or stainless steel outside!

Aluminium works outdoors too.

Isn't galvanized and zinc-coated the same thing?

ok

haven't seen galvanized dyckert for the air tool - guess I'll have to nail dyckert or glue instead

Well, not exactly. Galvanized is also called hot-dip galvanized. Electroplated items don't withstand outdoor environments at all.

Raising the thread.
I personally find it a bit confusing with "galvat", "elförzinkat" and "varmförsinkat".

Galvanizing = "electrochemical zinc plating process" (https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanisering)
So calling hot-dip galvanized as galvat is actually a bit ambiguous.

As I understand it, electroplating does not have the same resistance to corrosion as hot-dip galvanizing.

Galvanized/Hot galvanized = hot-dip galvanized

I also believe that electrogalvanized nails are not allowed according to AMA since the pull-out resistance in wood is worse than even plain nails. When I built my house in 2004/2005, my KA said he would nail me by my thumbs if I used anything other than hot-dip galvanized nails.

Galvat means galvanized, which definitionally means electroplated. Hot-dip galvanized means dipped in molten zinc, it is a completely different process. There is no process called hot-galvanized.

So:

Galvat = electroplated, used only indoors
Hot-dip galvanized is used outdoors
Hot-galvanized does not exist

But misunderstandings regarding this are legion.

There is no such thing as hot-dip galv

But the misunderstandings regarding this are indeed legion.
Indeed they are. Not even plumbers, blacksmiths, and for that matter, the galvanizing industry understand better and call everything hot-dip galv. There are a plethora of industries that are officially called hot-dip galvanizing for "hot-dip galv". It is surely an early Anglicization "in action". "Galvanize" means galvanizing. "Electrogalvanize" galvanizing :D

Hot-dip galv = hot-dip galvanizing in common parlance.

Reviving an old thread. Is there really no brads for outdoor use for nail guns? I've googled a bit but only find electroplated ones.

What size should you have? There are stainless dyckert available.

I was thinking of a length of about 30-40 mm. Where can one find stainless steel nails? I've searched, but only find ones you drive in by hand with a hammer.

Edit: Ok, "stainless" was the keyword. I had searched for nails for outdoor use and hot-dip galvanized. When I searched for stainless, I found them. Thanks for the reply :).
