Hello!

I am going to install a new ceiling in a basement room. I think both concepts, gypsum board and painted paneling, look nice enough, but when I was leaning more towards the latter (since the rest of the basement has that), my neighbor suggested that it was much easier to screw on gypsum board than to struggle with troublesome (?) tongue and groove in the paneling, etc.

As you can tell, I haven't installed either one, so my question is: Is gypsum board really that much easier? Is it true that paneling is harder to install to make it look good? (I can imagine that you have to keep a good check on keeping it parallel, etc.) The price per square meter seems to be about the same, right?

Thanks for reading! /David

Plasterboard is usually quicker to put up. But there is more follow-up work with it, plastering 3 times and painting 2 times. The paneling takes a bit longer to install but requires less after-work. Maybe 2 coats.

What were you planning to attach the plasterboard or paneling to?

If you go with plasterboard, you should frame it up at cc 30, for paneling usually cc 60 is sufficient.

Good to have two people when installing paneling and if they are several meters long.
But not difficult.
I've installed 5.10 m long ones and then it was necessary to have two people.

A nail gun is almost a must for ceiling paneling, just like a panel lift can be nice if you're putting up boards.
