Standing at the starting point for new construction of a house with a shared contract or whatever you want to call it.

The construction company does everything, except I do the surface work (painting and flooring).
The price then includes short paneling as the ceiling.

The question is, would you add an extra cost to get a pre-painted ceiling like TakEss or ElitTak, to avoid spackling and painting 200 sqm of ceiling, part of which is a vaulted ceiling?

A quick Google search shows short paneling at about 40-50kr /sqm while pre-painted is about 120-150kr /sqm

Tips and thoughts?

We added the extra cost for 90 sqm of roofing on the upper floor and haven't regretted it. It saved a lot of time and was worth every penny. I think our carpenter installed 90 sqm in one day with a helper sending up the boards. I dread to think about how much time it would take to plaster/sand 2-3 times and then paint at least 2 coats.

Personally, I actually think a smooth gypsum ceiling looks nicer - but it's also not that easy as an amateur to plaster/sand and paint so that the result is good.

I absolutely agree that smooth ceilings are nicer, but since there's a lack of both time and knowledge when it comes to plastering like a pro, it's out of the question :-)

Which ceiling did you choose and how much was the additional cost?

The preliminary work should be the same with slats, etc.

We hired carpenters on a running account for the upper floor, so I don't have an exact handle on the additional costs. We utilized the carpenter's discounts on the purchase, so I believe it cost under 10,000 SEK more in materials. The carpenter recommended ElitTak, so we went with that. I think the actual installation of the roof even went a little faster for the carpenter than if we had used gypsum boards.

If we had used gypsum boards and then hired painters for filling/sanding and painting, it would surely have cost significantly more than 10,000 SEK.
