Hello!

I could use some tips on how to remove the entire wall plug after removing the expander/screw/bracket, when a part remains, see image.

I was wondering if there is a way to, for example, sand them down, since they stick out a bit from the wall, before filling the holes with putty, or if there's another good trick to use. Grateful for tips/help.

  • Hole in a textured wall with part of a blue plastic wall plug exposed, needing removal tips before filling.
  • A plastic wall anchor partially protrudes from a hole in a textured wall, requiring removal or sanding before patching.
You can also drill them, so that they either get stuck on the drill or fall into the cavities where they can remain.

The least impact on drywall will likely be made by pushing them in with a nail, pen, or similar. In concrete, it is usually smoothest to grip with needle-nose pliers and pull out.

A trick I often use is to screw in a wood screw that is smaller than the plug is intended for, small enough to grip but without expanding the plug, then use a pair of pliers or something to pull out both the screw and the plug.

Nope, unfortunately, you just have to pull it out and fill it again. Screw in a screw a little bit into them until you feel the threads catch, then use pliers on the screw to gently twist/wiggle out the plug. Trying to sand or use other "tricks" will only lead to a larger damaged wall area. If you are gentle when pulling it out, it rarely creates a hole larger than the plug's circumference.

What you can possibly try is to push the plug in and then fill over it.
