Dropped plaster ceiling vs sparse panel + plaster, sound insulation?

A suspended ceiling provides better conditions for sound insulation than plasterboard on sparse paneling. The reason is that the sparse paneling has more contact with the structure than the suspended ceiling.

No, I live in my own 1920s wooden house. I'm about to renovate the living room and plan to drywall the walls and ceiling, and I'm considering trying a suspended ceiling since I've used battens in all the other rooms so far. My daughter has her bedroom above and is sometimes disturbed by the TV, so it's not footstep noise primarily.H Hjulbent said:

If the source of disturbance is on the floor below, a suspended ceiling with insulation should have a good effect.
