Hello!
I just wanted to share an experience I recently had. I'm going to drill a number of holes in the wall of our early 1900s apartment. After going through a number of threads here and elsewhere on the Internet, I started drilling with a regular drill bit for brick and concrete with my hammer drill because I read online that brick should be softer than concrete and thought it would suffice with a "regular" drill bit for brick and concrete. I got nowhere (3-4 cm) after 30 minutes of drilling, so I went and bought a new "regular" drill bit in the hope that it would be better. Same result with that drill bit.
Very irritated, I went back to the hardware store and bought this time a drill bit for hard concrete. This time it worked. In less than 5 minutes, I had drilled a full hole, something that had taken almost an hour before.
In summary: There's a difference between drill bits and drill bits, and there's a difference between bricks and bricks. The drill bit I bought had a tip, and our bricks are from the early 1900s. I guess drill bits without tips work on bricks manufactured later. They certainly don't work on our bricks.
Thank you for listening.
