Ah but so typical, why did they give me these countersunk screws at Hornbach?! I bought the brackets from them at the same time so he knew what I was going to do, and he went around and picked these for me

It will work perfectly. Is it optimal? No. Will the brackets fall down? Absolutely not. Drill first with 8mm as deep as you can, then a bit more with 6mm. It will be great.

What do the screw holes on the brackets look like? If they are countersunk, then they are the right screws.

The knowledge of the staff in these stores is extremely inadequate and many times almost nonexistent. Today, not many people stay particularly long at these types of workplaces, and therefore do not have time to learn anything. Employers do not take responsibility and send the staff for training, perhaps because they know that most will leave within a year anyway. The result is that most staff guess or convince themselves that they "know" the answer to all the questions they get, so they don't seem foolish in the situation.

My experience from Hornbach is that they have many competent staff members. At Bauhaus, however, you have to search far and wide and still might not find anyone.
