I will be installing a rampamuff with an internal M10 measurement and an external measurement of 18mm (according to calipers). It will be screwed into 22mm chipboard.
Is it enough to drill 16mm or should I go smaller? If I go smaller, I think the chipboard will crack unnecessarily...:S

If the recommended drill hole is not included on the packaging or on the manufacturer's website, I would measure between the threads as best as possible and drill accordingly.
What would life be without taking chances...
I first drilled down 2mm with the 18 drill, then drilled the remaining 20mm with the 16 drill.
The first drill prevented the chip from cracking and bending upwards. Now they're in place, holding the posts for the stair railing. Very nice!
