I will attach the battens to the wall with nail plugs and just wonder how deep to drill for these? I've found sources that say you should drill the entire length (i.e., if the nail plug is 100 mm, you drill 100 mm), but that seems unnecessarily deep?

Shouldn't you instead subtract the thickness of the material you're attaching - i.e., if you're attaching a 45-batten with a 100 mm nail plug, it should be enough to drill 55 mm (or 65 if you want a little more margin)?

It is reasonably intended that you drill through the rule into the wall, a total of 100mm.

Add up all the measurements that are on the outside wall. The 45 rule may make it a bit short inside the wall with 100, so if possible, go a bit longer, preferably 150. Measure and drill about 10-15mm deeper. In the rule, drill a few mm larger than the plug; everything is driven directly through the rule into the wall.

That sounds reasonable, that's what's meant, yes! I'll go with that, thanks!

You think 100 is too short? The rule of thumb is usually double the material's thickness, so I'm thinking 55 deep on a 45-rule should be fine?

Everything depends on what the wall is made of, which we don't know, but it's better to be sure the plug holds than not. Not much more work.

Double the material's thickness, so you should go in 90-100mm into the wall if you're going to attach a 45.

I would instead suggest Biltema's expander nail 8*130mm, with these, two-by-fours are as solid as a rock on concrete walls.

Ok! In that case, I will follow your recommendations and increase the depth. It should only be a temporary wall, but it still needs to stand stably.
