Doorways, arches!

Removed the door frame to open up between two rooms, now considering making a nice door opening and covering with MDF and then trim. Does anyone have tips/tricks to make it look as nice as possible and with as few visible nail holes as possible?!

Would like to avoid having to paint two walls, trust me the idea was there

Would like to avoid having to paint two walls, trust me the idea was there

But glue it there so you avoid all the work of sanding and filling. There are pre-painted moldings and arch boards available.
