Hello!

How do you handle door casings when installing renovation drywall?

In a hall, I'm planning to put renovation drywall on the walls. There are 8 doors in the hall that will get new casings. If I install the drywall first, spackle, and paint, then put up the door casings, the problem will be a gap between the door frame and casing (i.e., the short side/cross-section of the drywall) that needs to be spackled and painted. Or maybe a soft joint against the drywall?

Or should I install the casings and baseboards first, and then put up the drywall, spackle, and paint? Would it look strange if the casing protrudes less from the wall than usual?

What's the smartest way to do it? Any tips?

Best regards,
David

A trim strip of 6 mm (I recall that renovation gypsum is 6 mm) that covers the gap between the frame and casing is what I would probably opt for. Then you attach the casing to it...

If you want, you can also fill between the casing and the trim to really make it blend together.
