Hello

I have dug up approximately 3 square meters of basement floor where there used to be an old toilet. The hole is about 50 cm deep and we're going to make a laundry room there. It will have underfloor heating when it's finished.

Question one.
When I finished breaking up and digging out, there was about a 0.5 sqm water puddle about 3 cm deep. The ground took care of this by itself, and after about 3 days all the water disappeared on its own, without any assistance. Is it normal to have water accumulation when you've dug up and excavated? (This is the first time I'm doing this)

Question two.
I have some craftsmen who will help me reroute the pipes and also do the tiling. They suggested I should lay leca balls at the bottom of the hole. I'm a bit unsure, isn't it better to lay gravel? It has a better capillary-breaking function than leca balls, doesn't it? (That's what I've read).

I would appreciate it if someone could describe how I should proceed and which layers I should have in the hole. As mentioned, it's about 50 cm deep and there's going to be underfloor heating as well.

Regards,

Magnus

Leca or singel works well as leveling both (the lecakulor I have seen are at least capillary-breaking, but I have heard that not all are). Then I would use 100mm isodrän + 100mm cellplast, then a cast concrete slab with reinforcement and tubing for underfloor heating.
