I had thought of leveling some areas in the kitchen myself where it became uneven after we removed old tiles and wall-mounted cabinets, to save a bit on the already gigantic handyman bill. :S

But I'm not sure which material is the best. My father-in-law used Husfix to fill in holes in the concrete wall, but he didn't prime it. Now I read that you have to use primer on concrete, does that apply even if you're just leveling the wall and not tiling or placing something else on top?

I'm also wondering why you can't just use plaster? What is the difference?

Gypsum plaster is much easier to work with. Just spray a little water on it beforehand if it's dusty.

Do you mean by Plaster of Paris regular modeling plaster? I've used that quite a bit. But are there any disadvantages? Can it be painted over, for instance?

No, not modeling plaster. There is a special plaster render.

Ok, don't you need to prime then?

No, if it's dry, you moisten it slightly beforehand.

I was at the local (and well-stocked) paint store, but they only had husfix and model plaster to choose from. The salesperson thought I might as well use model plaster. What's wrong with model plaster for the purpose? Apart from the fact that the surface becomes smoother than concrete.

There is, go to a real building supply store. Model plaster won't work.

Okay, but 25 kilos seems a bit much... ;) But there might be smaller packages anyway.

But WHY won't model plaster work I still wonder, what's the difference?:)
