Hello!

We were thinking about putting tongue and groove boards on the walls in the bedroom of our holiday home. Can we put these directly on the wall, or do we need to install studs first?

Grateful for an answer!

What is the wall made of? How even is it?

Ah, smart angle! Didn't think about the evenness, so that's something to check in order to regulate it with the studs!?
I think it's a wooden wall with plywood. But it's an old cottage from the turn of the century, so there aren't many right angles in it ;)

Tear down the plywood and realign/set new studs in their place to avoid the wall taking up so much width.

that's the question, I think, if it's an old cabin then nothing is guaranteed to be straight and if the wall doesn't seem crooked at present, it probably won't after you've attached rustic panels to it either... if you have plywood in the wall today, you just nail down the rustic panels and smile. paint it once before you put up the planks and once when it's in place.

without having seen how it looks, this seems to be the best way in my head... :-)

Agree. Why create problems on a wall that doesn't seem crooked? Since råspont, as I understand it, is only a surface layer, 17x95 is sufficient. It works excellently to fasten with 50 mm pistoldyckert.

Plywood it certainly is not, but perhaps masonite. Have you examined what is behind the masonite? There might already be a wall of råspont there. It is not uncommon in older houses.
