Do I have to paint the wall first?

I am going to put up some glass mosaic and wonder if I need to paint the wall first to get a uniform color.

It is above a sink and I have put up a TEC moisture barrier that I had lying around in the garage from a previous project. I'm a bit worried that the text will show through the mosaic.

What kind of paint should I use in that case?

Yes, I know it wasn't necessary to put up the moisture barrier but now it's there...

Is there no film on the back of the mosaic or can you see right through the glass?
