Hello,

The house will be pressure tested next week and the contractor has placed the vapor barrier on the warm side of the insulation, but it is not adjacent or close. There can be several centimeters up to several meters between the insulation and the vapor barrier, depending on which part of the house we are looking at. I have a small image below, the question is: is it correct to do it this way? Doesn't the vapor barrier need to be directly on the insulation? I'm very stressed about this. Can someone help with my question? Won't I have problems with condensation etc. this way? Maybe also important to know; the FTX unit is located between the insulation and the vapor barrier, condensation?

It feels like a strange solution to leave a gigantic space between the moisture barrier and the insulation... as an old builder, I would never have done that. Feels like a quick fix to make money...
Maybe some theorist can answer the question, I just have a gut feeling to rely on :-)

Hi @John Smith

The question is, can you do it this way? Could there be issues with moisture/condensation in this manner? :)

Thanks for the answer.

sean

There should not be any significant risk of moisture just because there are a few dm between the plastic and the insulation. It could rather be a better solution if it is easier to achieve a tight moisture barrier under the trusses compared to having to cut and tape a lot inside the framework.

@useless Thanks! For me, it doesn't really matter. As long as it doesn't create problems. As I mentioned, I have the unit in the attic, so the house's heat doesn't reach up there if it's sealed like this. The attic will always be cold even if it's insulated? Because the plastic doesn't let warm air to the attic?

The plastic insulates nothing, so it will be basically equally warm on both sides of it.
