Hello!
Maybe a silly question from a DIY enthusiast, but I wonder if there is someone who can tell me what the difference is between HEA and IPE beams, is an HEA beam an "H"-beam and an IPE an "I"-beam?

What's the biggest difference between them if you compare an HEA200 and an IPE200?

Hope someone can answer or send a link…

HEA and IPE are more modern versions of the old H and I beams. The difference between IPE200 and HEA200 is that the HEA beam can carry more load but is, on the other hand, heavier than the IPE beam.

The IPE profile is optimal when it comes to load-bearing capacity relative to its own weight, but it has a greater height than an HEA.

About the same difference as between an I and an H. Now, that's not a very good analogy since the I lacks top and bottom flanges, but if I say that the cross-section of an HEA is approximately square while an IPE is rectangular, maybe you'll understand. In everyday terms, one is called an H-beam and the other an I-beam.

how are the dimensions designed on them?
is the HEA beam 200x200 or is it just the height that becomes 200?
