I am going to install a ceiling lamp that will be connected to a new switch above the existing one. The wall is made of Siporex. I can't figure out which junction box is suitable? Hole saw?

  • Wall-mounted dimmer switch on a gray Siporex wall.
Use a built-in dimmer like Plejd dim-02 and 2 spring-loaded buttons instead, so no extra box is needed :)

I would like to have it uniform with the existing switch and a common frame. 🙃

Yes, I mean that you replace the existing dimmer with a junction box dimmer with 2 separate channels. But maybe you want it uniform with another room?

Most likely, the existing pipe runs straight up from the current box, so you can't just drill in a new box above.

I would have knocked a hole above and removed the existing box and installed two new boxes that are interconnected to use a double frame.

I would have chosen the Schneider multifix device box which I would have "nailed" in place and then, for example, applied gypsum plaster.

Ah, I get it! Yes, in the adjacent rooms we have it consistent with what I'm thinking, with a common frame and rotary dimmer.

Yes, that's correct because there's a junction box above. Don't you think it's possible to just put a new box right above the existing one and then a common frame?

This is probably still the "best" solution when I look at it! Thanks 🙏

Can you solve it with a surface-mounting frame?
