The house is currently being painted, and it's time to take a look at the balcony. Today, there's a super boring iron railing there, probably the original. The walls are metal sheets where the paint has more or less completely peeled off. On one hand, you want to preserve the old, but this simply doesn't look good.
It will probably be some kind of wooden design, but it's hard to envision exactly what type of railing would fit best. The thing is, the terrace, which is built under and next to the balcony, currently feels like a box. So, we're thinking of lightening it up a bit with a different type of cladding. It might look best if the balcony and terrace were cohesive.
I would really appreciate some advice on this.

Anyone have any tips to give? Or suggestions on where I can find various images and building instructions?
Found this railing that I think would fit nicely with our house. Wondering how it's built. Not so keen on using angle irons, etc. Can someone teach me the technique?
Then I'm wondering about something that has been brought up before but I haven't really gotten an answer to. How can I attach the posts if I do NOT want to screw/drill into the metal floor?

Your attached picture looks really nice, fits well with the house!
Not making holes in the metal is smart, it's not a floor for the balcony but a roof for the porch.
Perhaps it would be possible to lay out a frame of beams that you attach to the wall? Then you attach the posts to that, and sturdy beams on top in a similar frame?
Alternatively, you could leave the frame of the old balcony railing in place and just cover it with boards? That's what we've done on our deck; the roof posts consist of ugly blue painted iron beams securely attached to cast supports, so we just covered them with decking boards. Somewhat unorthodox, but nice and also a fun effect when people lean against the posts and discover that they seem to sit loosely!

We had an iron railing on the terrace steps that wasn't the most beautiful. I cut it about 10-15 cm above the floor and mounted the posts on the railing stubs, worked like a charm and is the most stable part of the railings. Terrace and balcony in a style similar to your picture.
The balcony has a metal roof, where the posts have been attached through the metal roof with screws and plenty of silicone. A frame that attaches to the wall can work if you have something really solid to attach it to in the wall; we have a plastered house without knowing where the studs are in the wall, so that wasn't an option.
Kind regards,
Isendahl

Here's what our new railing looks like: http://www.byggahus.se/forum/altan-uteplats/146095-balkongraecke-pa-platgolv.html#8
No angle brackets there.
The posts are screwed from underneath through 45x120, the posts are 115x115.
The fence sections consist of horizontal 45x45 with a 45x45 directly under a 45x95 at the top.
The spindles 22x95
The beams were skew-screwed into the posts with Essve Cutters.
There should be some form of top rail, what is visible in the picture are just temporary planks used during the assembly/alignment of the railing.

Yes, the idea is to have the same style on the terrace as on the balcony. I don't like the boxy feel that the terrace gives today anyway.
We'll see if the summer allows for the project. First, I just have to get married...
