Hello! We live in a hillside house with a balcony on the side with two floors.
It is under the house roof and made of concrete.
We are going to renovate the entire balcony and also make a patio underneath. Currently, we have a "ceiling" on the lower outdoor area and would like to keep it because it looks nicer!
How should we prepare the surface on the balcony? Do we need to put metal/plastic/felt under the joists to protect the concrete slab? Or can we just build directly on it?
If we need to have metal/plastic/felt underneath, should it be sloped outward to allow any water to drain out?
So, for example, should we cut the joists at an angle to create a slope, lay the felt/plastic/metal on top, and then add another cut joist in the opposite direction to level the floor?
